Electronic signature in Mexico, with evidence and a full audit trail

Sign contracts with Mexican customers, suppliers and employees from any place and device, with a digital handwritten signature or an advanced electronic signature such as the e.firma, the advanced electronic signature issued by Mexico's tax authority (SAT). Every document gets biometric identity checks, a trusted timestamp and a NOM-151 certificate. NOM-151 is the Mexican standard for preserving data messages: the certificate proves integrity and date.

03 NOM-151 compliance

Legal validity in Mexico, backed by NOM-151 evidence

Mexico's Commercial Code (Código de Comercio) recognizes electronic signatures and data messages. Through NOM-151-SCFI-2016, Mexico's Ministry of Economy sets the criteria for preserving data messages when documents are signed electronically. Accredited certification service providers (PSCs) provide data message preservation and digitization in an audited process.

  • NOM-151 certificate for preserving data messages, issued by an accredited PSC
  • Certified timestamp and digital fingerprint (hash) of every document
  • Audit trail that documents the process and supports your evidence
  • Signer identity verified with biometrics and a liveness check

FAQ

E-signature in Mexico: what foreign companies ask

Have a specific question? Message us on WhatsApp and our bilingual team will answer.

Is an electronic signature valid in Mexico?
Yes. Mexico's Commercial Code (Código de Comercio) recognizes electronic signatures and data messages. ZIGN complies with NOM-151-SCFI-2016: every document gets a certified timestamp, a NOM-151 certificate, a hash and an audit trail that document the process and support your evidence under applicable Mexican law.
What is a NOM-151 certificate?
NOM-151 is the Mexican standard for preserving data messages. A NOM-151 certificate is issued by an accredited certification service provider (PSC) and proves that a document has not changed since a specific date and time. With ZIGN you receive it for every signed document, together with the timestamp, the document hash and an audit trail with the date, time, email, IP and digital certificate of each signer.
Can my US team sign with a Mexican counterparty?
Yes. ZIGN supports international signing between Mexico and the USA: your team and your Mexican counterparty sign the same document from any device, with the identity checks you choose. The evidence package (NOM-151 certificate, timestamp and audit trail) is built for Mexico. For requirements in your own country, check with your legal counsel.
Is the signing experience in English?
Yes. ZIGN and the signing emails your counterparties receive are available in English and Spanish. Our sales, implementation and support team is bilingual, so you can run the whole project in English.
What is the e.firma and do I need one?
The e.firma is the advanced electronic signature issued by Mexico's tax authority (SAT). In Mexico, an advanced electronic signature uses certificates that identify the signer with the same force as a handwritten signature. You only use it when a contract calls for an advanced signature: ZIGN also offers digital handwritten and simple electronic signatures with identity validation.
Does ZIGN integrate with our current tools?
Yes, through a REST API. ZIGN also connects natively with ZERO CLM and with signature providers such as DocuSign, Adobe Sign, Mifiel and CINCEL.
